Summary

Partial nephrectomy (PN) is considered standard treatment for small localized renal tumors.

Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) is an attractive option for management of localized

renal tumors because of decreased morbidity and quicker recovery. The oncologic outcomes of LPN

has been shown to be similiar to open PN. The morbidity advantages of laparoscopy make it more

appealing to the patient. However, LPN is a techically demanding procedure. Experienced laparoscopic

surgeons can achieve excellent outcomes with minimal morbidity. At present, efforts are

made to decrease, even eliminate, warm ischemia time. However, complex cases may require cold

ischemia in select cases. Robotic and newer technology helps tackling complex cases laparoscopically.
