Özet

Background: Due to osteoporosis’s (OP) multifactorial nature, there are multiple risk factors such as proper nutrition, adequate physical activity, careful use of medication and knowledge especially for postmenopausal woman. Measure the behavior and intentions of women with or without OP in the postmenopausal period about prevention from osteoporotic fractures and to investigate the relationship between related factors is the aim of this study. Methods: This research is designed as a cross-sectional study and it was carried out in postmenopausal women over 55 years of age who applied to a physical therapy branch hospital between October 2017-December 2017. In order to measure the intention and behavior of women to protect from osteoporotic fracture, the osteoporotic fracture protection scale (OFPS) that based on the Planned Behavior Theory model, was used. The questionnaire is investigating sociodemographics, general health perception, activity status, health and operative status, tool usage to help walking or usage of other helping tools, and the OFPS. Scale evaluation was done according to the total score, the high score indicated a high level of protection. Results: The lowest score was 56, the highest 110, with the average 86,28 (+/- 7,831) The scale score was found to be significantly lower in those who were living alone (p < 0,03), were not active in daily activities. (p < 0,003) and had a bad general health perception (p<,000)The osteoporotic scale score was found to be significantly higher those who have fractures and/or a fall. (p < 0,042 – p < 0,003) and who have the previous knowledge about OP(p<,000). Conclusions: Prevention from OP in women is associated with living together with relatives, high general health perception, activity in daily work, falling down, fractures after falling down and previous knowledge of OP. Giving more information about OP, taking preventions for the falls, will be helpful in terms of associated risk factors for OP. Key messages: Prevention from OP in women is associated with living together with relatives, high general health perception, activity in daily work, fractures after falling down and previous knowledge of OP. Giving more information about OP, taking preventions for the falls, will be helpful in terms of associated risk factors for OP.
