Özet

Introduction:Spirulina maxima is a type of blue-green algae with high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It consists of 70% protein,30% carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. There are studies showing thatil Spirulina, which contains numerous antioxidants, including beta-carotene,C-phycocyanin,tocopherols,micronutrients,essential aminoacids, unsaturated fatty acids,gamma-linolenic acid, sulfated polysaccharide and phenolic compounds, is a potential treatment supporter.Spirulina activates cellular antioxidant enzymes, inhibits lipid peroxidation, captures free radicals and increases superoxide dismutase, catalase activities, contributing to the development of the immune system, suppression of the development of chronic, cardiovascular diseases and some cancers. Purpose:We aimed to perform the extraction of Spirulina both in water and in 5%,70% Ethanol solutions by simply keeping it for certain periods and by ultrasonication at different times, and to investigate to what extent the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances in its content show these effects. Method:Two different solvents (Water and Ethanol(5%-70%)) and methods were used for extraction.Spirulina was kept in solvents for different times(0-4-8hours) and extracted. For ultrasonication, the same solvents were used for extraction at different times(5-10-15min).The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the obtained extracts were analyzed. Results:%Hyaluronidase(HY) inhibition was obtained in method that we studied to investigate its anti-inflammatory properties,in the method that was kept highest in 5%EtOH solution for 4hours,and %Xanthine Oxidase(XO) inhibition was obtained in the solution in which ultrasonication was applied in 5%EtOH for 10min.The other extraction method, which XO inhibition has the highest inhibition,is the method that is kept in 5%EtOH solution for 4hours,as HY inhibition.Among the methods we used for antioxidant effects, the highest FRAP value was obtained in the method where we used 15min ultrasonication in 70%EtOH solution. The highest DPPH value showed 8hours in 70%EtOH solution, while TEAC has the highest value in extraction performed in water without waiting. Conclusion:Our data show that Spirulina has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in both water and EtOH extracts. This shows that Spirulina can be seen as a potential treatment route in oxidative stress-related diseases.
