Özet

Composite materials especially polymeric composites are successfully used in engineering and other technological structures due to their properties such that composites have better specific strength and specific rigidity in comparison with other engineering materials. Since composite materials are used in engineering applications subjected to various loads, internal damage occur. These damages reduce the stability and strength of the structure over time. In order to identify damaged areas and to make the structures work healthy and reliable, effective health monitoring systems are needed. In this study, two vibration based damage detection algorithms were used to investigate damaged zones of delaminated composite structures. Six carbon fiber reinforced composite beams were studied. As a reference point, no delamination was created in one of the beam. Piezoelectric and laser vibrometer sensors were used to find modal frequencies of delaminated beams experimentally. In addition to that, numerical results were obtained by applying the finite element method which is used in damage detection algorithms to determine delamination size and zone. In this study two damage detection algorithms were utilized, and their sensitivities were compared. As a result, layer delaminations built in laminated composite materials could be predicted non- destructively by using the data that obtained numerically or experimentally in damage detections.
