Elastic warp knitted fabric is widely used in corsets, bandages, posture correctors, wristbands, etc. to support the trunk and the vertebral column and protect against traumatic or congenital spinal deformities as well as for treatment of some medical problems. In order to support sustainable development in medical textile manufacturing, the new concept for elastic warp knitted fabric development is proposed. It is in partly replacing polyester with natural yarn (cotton or flax) and reducing the content of elastomer. The research aims to create elastic fabric to provide a high performance of rehabilitation goods. Research results show the possibility of reducing elastomer consumption and replacing synthetic threads with natural yarns without adverse effects on fabric`s main functional properties namely stretchability and elasticity. According to the obtained results, elastic fabrics produced from natural yarns exert higher pressure than those produced with polyester threads, but the pressure values decrease with the decrease in the amount of elastomer in the structure. The cotton-contained fabrics regardless of elastomer content can be evaluated as strong (between 40-60 mmHg) at more than 20 % level of extension according to the classification system for compression bandages. The general product`s performance is improving as well by higher comfort namely increasing in fabric`s permeability, hygroscopicity, and changes in thermal properties. The effect of multiple laundering on fabric`s performance, especially its appearance, was studied as well. It was found that even after 50 washing cycles the changes in fabric`s color are only barely visible.
