Özet

Breathing circuits most often fail as a result of leaks, but obstructions in the expiratory limb are rare and poorly understood. In this report, we aimed to present unexpected mechanical ventilation difficulties that occurred in pediatric patients. In both cases, airway pressures increased to peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) of 40 cmH₂O and positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) of 34 cmH₂O during both manual and automatic ventilation. Exami-nations of the breathing circuits revealed the presence of partial or total obstructions in the expiratory limb. These obstructions could not be detected by the anesthesia machine, either automatic or circuit check test.
