Özet

You Have Given Me a Country (2010) written by Neela Vaswani is an assessment of unclear borders, identity problems, and what it means to be biracial and have a biracial identity. Combining biracial identity problems with Americanization and in-between selfhoods, the memoir explores the journey of the wrıter’s Irish-Catholic mother and Sindhi-Indian father's journey toward each other the biracial child, that is the writer herself. The construction of this family is a story of immigration in which an Irish mother brings along her background to the United States and also an Indian father with his traditions, past and cultural heritage come together to form a uniquely American family as the biracial daughter narrates the memoir to us.
