Physical frailty and sarcopenia are the predictors of age-related conditions, such as loss of autonomy and disability. They are attracting a great deal of attention in current debates about aging. One study describes it as: "a medical syndrome with multiple causes and contributors that is characterized by diminished strength, endurance, and reduced physiologic function that increases an individual's vulnerability for developing increased dependency and/or death". Sarcopenia, is known as a reduction in skeletal muscle protein mass and muscle function. It is strongly associated with age, and generally considered a characteristic of the frailty syndrome. Early identification and treatment of these syndromes can reduce disability and hospitalization in older persons.</span><br></p>
