Summary

The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the 2x2 Achievement Goals Questionnaire for Sport (2x2 AGQ-S) which was originally developed in English by Conroy et al. The questionnaire was completed by 449 athletes, including 194 females and 255 males with a mean age of 21.52 2.63 years from different sports. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed to examine the 2x2 achievement goal model and confirm its validity. Findings on the construct validity of the scale ( (2)/df = 3.12, RMSEA = 0.06, GFI = 0.92, NNFI =0.97, CFI = 0.98 for the model with all factors correlated) were consistent with the original scale's four-factor structure. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.94 for the mastery-approach factor, 0.75 for the mastery-avoidance factor, 0.88 for the performance-approach factor, and 0.73 for the performance-avoidance factor. Results from the present study indicate that the 2x2 achievement goal model provides a reliable and valid measure of achievement goals for Turkish athletes.
