Özet

This chapter looks at the normative turn in IR theory, firstly, by examining the role of Normative Theory within the discipline - reflecting upon its critical role to pave the way for Post-positivist IR theories as well as reopening the debate on the origins and ideals of the discipline itself. Secondly, the chapter moves on the ethical dimensions and ethical problems in the globalised world of politics. Thus, normative dilemmas and tragedy in contemporary world politics will be examined accordingly. This chapter concludes that the Normative turn in IR theory has played a vital role in both the theoretical and methodological development of IR theories since mid-1980s. However, international/global norms, normative dilemmas in foreign policy, and ethics of politics need further theoretical reflections – particularly, if the IR theorists wish to remain faithful to the origins of the discipline.
