Özet

Background and Goal of Study The aim of this prospective study is to investigate frequency and etiology of postoperative visual loss in patients undergoing spine surgery. Methods: After ethical committee approval, ASA I- II status 52 patients aged between 18- 65, undergoing elective spine surgery in the prone position were included in this prospective study. In the eye examination of the patients: pupils, vision acuity, anterior and posterior camera were evaluated by oftalmologist preoperatively and postoperatively. The information collected included: surgical procedure, duration of surgery, intraoperative hemodynamic parameters, total blood loss, total amount of transfused blood and the lowest level of haematocrit during surgery. Demographic information gathered include age, gender, height, weight, smoking, diabetes and hypertension history. Patients divided two groups: Group1 contains patients who had visual changes, Group 2 contains patients without visual changes. Results: We have found 11 of 52 patients had visual changes postoperatively. Visual changes were found in: older patients, female patients patients who had intraoperative hypotensive episode and patients who had concomitant disease. Discussion: Potential risk factors for postoperative visual changes in spine surgery were: older age, female gender, concomitant systemic disease and intraoperative hypotensive episode.
