Summary

Ultrasonographic signs of hydatid cysts are well established (Bolondi et al, 1984; Hadidi, 1982; Weill, 1982) and this new diagnostic tool has helped not only in the diagnosis of symptomatic cases but also in the screening of asymptomatic patients. This is of importance in countries where the prevalence of hydatid cysts is as high as in Turkey and where there are many possible causes of liver enlargement.
