Özet
In recent years in Ottoman historiography, property relations and the construction processes of private property over common areas have been a subject of research in recent years and studies in this regard have increased. Especially common areas such as forests, lakes, rivers and pastures have created a topic of discussion and the struggles of social classes over common areas have attracted the attention of researchers. In this context, it has been claimed that ecological conditions can be seen as a determining factor in social and economic relations by establishing a direct link between nature and society. This study, on the other hand, draws attention to the political economy of water as an ecological element by putting production relations at the centre. In 18th- and 19th-century Diyarbekir, water disputes in different places and at different times will be analysed from the perspective of relations of production, as well as the ways in which landowners and peasants in rural Diyarbekir use water will be discussed. In this context the ways in which the commons became a site of struggle among landowners themselves and between landowners and peasants will be analysed.
