Our current knowledge of the normal range of posterior tibial slope varies widely among studies. Pre-existing literature provides limited information about posterior tibial slope in the pediatric age group and how it changes between ages. The emerging problem of how the posterior tibial slope changes in epiphysiodesis and osteotomies around the knee necessitates a description of normal values of the posterior tibial slope and its change between ages in growing children. The aim of this study is to define the mean value of the posterior tibial slope in the pediatric age group and investigate its change between ages.

Material and Methods: The study is planned as a descriptive cross-sectional study. Following the approval of the ethical committee of our university, we used our institution's radiological imaging archive and searched for fulllength lateral tibial X-rays in the age group of 8-12. A total of 731 radiographs were coded as lateral tibia radiography. Improper radiographs, any suspicion of previous fracture and metabolic disease on X-rays, history of previous surgical intervention of any kind, history of previous fracture, and presence of a metabolic bone disease on the patient's records were our exclusion criteria. After the application of exclusion criteria, 280 radiographs were included in the study. Five different age groups were formed. Proximal anatomical axis and mechanical axis methods were used in the measurement of the posterior tibial slope. Spearman correlation analysis and the intraclass correlation coefficient are used for statistical analysis. All analyses were performed on SPSS v25.0.

Results: We found no statistically significant difference in the posterior tibial slope between age groups (p=0.01). All measurements are strongly correlated both in all age groups and between age groups (rICC=0.94, p=0.01). There were no differences between the two measurement methods in all age groups (p=0.13). Conclusion: The posterior slope does not change in growing children. The proximal anatomical axis measurement method provides as reliable results as the mechanical axis method in measuring posterior tibial slope.

Keywords : "Posterior Tibial Slope", "Proximal Anatomical Axis", "Mechanical Axis
