Özet

This article aims to address the problems faced during the conceptual modeling of a large scale HLA based simulation system, and demonstrates the efforts towards the development of the conceptual model using the CMMS (Conceptual Models of the Mission Space) framework. In the article, the CMMS framework is compared with the traditional BOM approach used in the HLA projects with respect to how adequately they fulfill the needs expected from the model. During our studies, it has been observed that BOM modeling is appropriate for the transition to the design phase in the project life-cycle when the simulation requirements are determined properly. However, it falls short of satisfying the substantial need for acting as a bridge between the subject matter experts (SMEs) and the simulation developers, especially as the conceptual model expands with respect to the scale of the system. The link between SMEs and developers is fundamental to properly comprehend the system. Therefore, infirmity of this link causes deficiencies in the determination of the simulation requirements and consequently flaws in the development of the system design. Towards this end, CMMS framework is adopted for conceptual model development, and customized for our needs in the project. The observations obtained after the utilization of the model suggest that the resulting framework is a promising method for the use of large scale HLA based simulation systems.
