Özet

The study presents the evaluation of woody wastes (hurds) of the Cannabis plant for production of hydrochar and hydrogen in a biorefinery consept. In this context, the effect of hydrothermal carbonization conditions (temperature and duration) on the yield and the fuel properties of hydrochar obtained from hurds (HD) and its digestate (HDD) was investigated. The digestate (HDD) was obtained from methane production from HD via dry fermentation. In addition, steam gasification of hydrochars was carried out to produce hydrogen. The results showed that temperature was the main parameter for yield and properties of hydrochars. The hydrochar yield decreased with increasing temperature from 200 °C to 275 °C. The mass and energy yields of hydrochars from HD were found between 36.2 and 66.4%, 55.9 and 74.0%, respectively, under tested conditions. In case of HDD, the mass and energy yields were 43.2 - 76.9% and 54.6 - 84.4 %, respectively. Only the hydrochars produced at highest temperature had similar properties to lignite, while the others showed a peat-like structure. Selected hydrochars were gasified under steam atmosphere through a two-step gasification process, which provides ex-situ tar reforming. Maximum hydrogen yields obtained were 57.0 and 48.9 mmol/g feedstock for HD-based and HDD-based hydrochars, respectively.
