Özet
The lack of theoretical studies in Turkish place-name studies on the classification of the material is also observed on the terms. The lexical-semantic classification, that is important for displaying the Turkish place naming culture, is no exception of this case, either. Within the framework of this paper 9 master’s thesis, 4 articles-papers, and a book written in Turkey were examined in regard with classification issue mentioned above. As a result, it is understood that there is lack of common approach in Turkish place-names classification. So a new lexical-semantic classification, that its general framework is taken from Soviet Union linguistics, was made. Taking into account the revised place names in Turkey, this classification is brought to the attention of researchers working in this field
