Özet
Mobile-based applications can potentially facilitate self-care processes for oral health in children. This study aimed to evaluate parental satisfaction with a newly developed mobile application to improve oral hygiene in children. A hundred children between 8-12 years old who applied to the Department of Pedodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Ege, for routine dental examination were included in the study. The age, gender, education level, and socioeconomic status of the parents were recorded. A questionnaire including the child's oral hygiene habits was completed by the parents. A newly developed mobile application “Brushy” was introduced to the children and their parents. The Parental Satisfaction Survey consisting of five questions, scored out of 5 (1-5 points, from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”) according to Likert scaling was performed on the parents. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 25.0 software program. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for comparisons between the groups. The results were evaluated at a 95% confidence interval and a statistical significance level of p<0.05. Based on the parental satisfaction survey data, it was observed that using the mobile application was effective in gaining tooth brushing habits, and brushing became regular and enjoyable in all children. It has been concluded that mobile applications are effective in gaining oral hygiene habits due to the interest in technology in the new generation. Long-term follow-up studies with more subjects comparing different oral hygiene education methods will be planned.
