Summary

Tense logic or the tense semantics produces truth condition-based models that try to show how the temporal information in a sentence is presented in a logical relation. On the other hand, the question of which exponents are used in languages to express tense and aspect, which are grammatical categories, are answered differently than that of the logical and semantic level. Studies on determining tense, aspect and modal exponents in Turkish and on the morphological level put forward various arguments with a mono-functional or multi-functional approach. In semantics, whose purpose and concepts are different, all units that are the constituents of the compositional meaning, except for the inflectional structure of the predicate, are seen as a component of temporal interpretation by placing the truth-conditional meaning of the sentence at the centre instead of individual exponents. In this paper, the tense logic and the tense semantics are briefly introduced, and some suggestions are made on how these approaches can have an interpretative role on the knowledge of temporality in Turkish.
