Özet

Skeletal Class III malocclusions due to maxillary deficiency in adult patients have a typical appearance of concave profile, inadequate upper lip support and nasal tip projection. As a result of severe maxillary hypoplasia, the mandible often undergoes an anterior and superior autorotation with subsequent over closure of the vertical dimension [1]. In many patients, these problems require a combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgery such as LeFort I osteotomy or distraction osteogenesis.

The choice between a conventional LeFort I advancement and a distraction osteogenesis is an important problem to deal with in establishing an ideal maxillary sagittal relationship. Literature reveals that; the choice depends on the amount of the maxillary movement needed. Noncleft patients who need advancements in excess of 10 mm can be treated in terms of sagittal maxillary distraction osteogenesis. The main object of this study is to compare two different maxillary advancement technique (Distractor osteogenesis (DO) and Lefort I osteotomy (LO)) by simulating patient-specific head model via the finite element analysis (FEA) to estimate an appropriate surgical technique for a patient has skeletal class III malocclusion.
