Summary

This study aims to highlight the relationship among anti-consumption, individual pessimism, and materialism, with a specific interest on materialism and its moderating effect on the relationship between pessimism and anti-consumption. A quantitative study, including an online survey using purposive sampling methods, was conducted between December 2019 and April 2020. All respondents were asked about their attitudes toward anti-consumption while measuring their materialism levels and social and economic pessimism levels. The predictability of personal pessimism levels on the attitudes toward micro-anti-consumption is found to be moderated by materialism.
