Summary

RESEARCHES ON THE ‘HOUSE GARDEN’ CONCEPT IN TURKISH CULTURE, PAST TO PRESENT

Anthropological changes that occurred on landscapes in the last two hundred years required the related profession of landscape architecture to be scrutinized deeply and profoundly. Especially when focused on dominant nations of recent eras it could easily be determined that they have all created a unique landscape identity. When it is focused on Turkish culture from a similar perspective, it would be rather clear that there is a strong necessity to search and frame the Turkish landscape design history and how it was shaped throughout the time. This research was born from this need with the aim of identifying and extracting the essential values of Turkish house garden culture by scrutinizing the nationally and internationally written texts.

Key Words: Turkish gardens, Ottoman gardens, Seljuk Gardens, Islamic gardens and history of landscape architecture.
