Özet
İnfertilite, cinsel yönden aktif ve kontrasepsiyon uygulamayan bir çiftin bir yıl içerisinde gebelik elde edememesi durumudur.[1] Çiftlerin yaklaşık %25'i bir yıl içerisinde gebelik elde edememektedirler ve bunların da %15'i infertilite için medikal tedavi arayışında olup, %5'i istemelerine rağmen çocuksuz kalmaktadırlar.İnfertilite, hem erkeği hem de kadını et- ABSTRACTReproductive system functions have become more sensitive due to both endogenous factors and exogenous chemical agents, such as the increasing environmental pollution in recent times.Exposure to heavy metals which have an important place in environmental pollutants, has become a worldwide health problem leading to undesirable effects in many different systems, especially in the reproductive system.In our everyday life, the information on the effects of cadmium exposed from different sources on reproductive health effects are based on a limited number of epidemiological and experimental studies.In the literature, along with supporting experimental and occupational evidence for adverse effects of low levels of cadmium on male fertility (sperm quality and reproductive hormone levels), the limited and inadequate information on this subject is noteworthy.In order to be protected from harmful effects of cadmium, relevant experimental studies should be given weight, and the findings obtained should be examined in detail in epidemiological studies.For this reason, the aim of this review is to draw attention to the effects of cadmium on the male reproductive system.
