Summary
Abstract The thorium sorption onto Pongamia Pinnata leaves was studied in relation to pH, initial thorium concentration, column bed height, flow rate, and flow time. The breakthrough curve was plotted. The experimental data were analyzed using the Thomas, Yoon–Nelson, and Adams–Bohart models to identify the column parameters relevant for constructing column procedures. All the parameters showed good agreement with the results of the Thomas model. Thus, Karanja leaves can be utilized to remove Th(IV) ions from monazite sand for a low cost and without any treatment.
