Özet
The aim of this investigation is to demonstrate the effectiveness of Botulinum Toxin A for the aesthetic enhancement of the smile by correcting lip movements, specifically in patients with gummy smiles, drooping mouth corners, Bell's palsy, and other perioral muscular disorders. The study was conducted on 23 fresh cadavers for anatomical studies and 55 participants (42 women, 13 men) with varying conditions affecting their smile aesthetics, including gummy smiles, drooping mouth corners, and Bell's palsy with ethical approval obtained from the Ethics Committee. Ultrasound imaging was employed for precise anatomical assessments. The injection sites for Bont-A were determined based on muscle activity and smile dynamics, with specific considerations for muscle hyperactivity and asymmetry. Statistical significance was assessed through patient satisfaction surveys and evaluations over a four-month follow-up period. The application of Botulinum Toxin A significantly improved the symmetry and aesthetics of the smile across various conditions, including gummy smiles, drooping mouth corners, and Bell's palsy-induced asymmetry. All cases, except one Bell's palsy case, showed improvement, with a 100% satisfaction rate in general smile aesthetics and an 80% satisfaction rate specifically in Bell's palsy cases. No complications were reported, except for one case of non-response in a Bell's palsy patient. The study confirms the efficacy of Bont-A injections in enhancing smile aesthetics through the correction of lip movements. The protocol offers a practical and effective approach for dentists, with significant patient satisfaction and no major complications. This advancement supports the practical value of facial aesthetics considerations into dental treatment plans.
