Summary
<p>Early childhood is a critical stage during which the foundations are laid for children’s attitudes toward the environment, a lifelong sense of environmental responsibility, and ethical values. In this context, sustainability in early childhood education is approached as an integrated framework that contributes to children’s holistic development through its ecological, social, and economic dimensions. The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth examination of the conceptual and structural relationships between the fundamental principles of sustainability and leading early childhood education models, including Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, Outdoor and Nature-Based Education, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). In this study, which employs document analysis as a qualitative research design, the Qualitative Network Analysis (QNA) strategy was adopted for data analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic coding and directed content analysis, then transferred to a conceptual network model by creating computer-assisted coding matrices. During the analysis process, to reduce the structural complexity of the network and increase the discriminative power between models, outliers with maximum centrality and those with minimum centrality were excluded to construct the model. The results of the study revealed a core network structure that illustrates the interrelationships between educational models and sustainability themes, centered around the concepts of “taking responsibility”, “social/ethical”, “material/spatial”, and “holistic development.”</p>
