Özet
This study examines 37 short stories from the Gürbüz Türk Çocuğu magazine, published in the Ottoman script between 1926 and 1928, within the context of the nationbuildingprocess and “citizen engineering” of the Early Republic period. Beyond being apublication of the Society for the Protection of Children, the magazine functioned as oneof the “Ideological Apparatuses of the State” as conceptualized by Louis Althusser. Thestories examined are classified according to three basic typologies: the idealized healthychild, the child rescued by the state’s compassion, and the suffering child who mobilizessocial sensitivity. The study analyzes how literary texts are instrumentalized as “softenedpropaganda” tools for biopolitical goals and their role in constructing the ideal citizen ofthe modern nation-state.
