Özet
In the design of traditional control charts, values of the true process parameters are often estimated from a reference sample of in-control observations by using least squares (LS) estimators. However LS estimators are not efficient when the data are non-normal. Therefore the Modified Maximum Likelihood (MML) estimators are preferred to be used since they are robust to the data anomalies and more efficient under non-normality. In this study, the procedure of designing an individual control chart for mean with MML estimators are given and this control chart is named as MML individual control chart. The data of hinge side length which is an important quality characteristic in the production process of a dish washer are analyzed and found to be non-normal, therefore MML individual control chart is applied to the side length measurements of the hinge moving parts.
