<p>Abstract</p><p>A Statement on the Criticism of Title Translations of Children's and Youth Literature</p><p>The aim of this study is to examine, by drawing on the qualitative and quantitative analysis approaches, the methods followed in the title translations of children's and youth literature works.</p><p>The form, frequency, and distribution of 161 titles are analyzed in order to dispute the widespread prejudice that children’s and youth book translators do not sufficiently adhere to the</p><p>source text. It is proved that Turkish translations of German titles have in general the same structure and that the strategy of “free translation” is preferred only with a ratio of 32,39 %. The assessment also demonstrates that target cultural norms and values have a considerable effect on</p><p>the decision to use the strategy “free translation”.</p><p>Key Words: translation studies, translation of titles, children’s and youth literature, literary translation</p><p>Zusammenfassung</p><p>Das Ziel der Studie besteht darin, anhand einer qualitativen und quantitativen Analyse Titelübersetzungen von Werken der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur zu untersuchen. Form, Frequenz und</p><p>Distribution von 161 Titeln werden analysiert, um das gängige Vorurteil zu entkräften, dass Übersetzer von Kinder- und Jugendliteratur den Ausgangstext nicht ausreichend berücksichtigen. Die</p><p>Arbeit belegt, dass Titelformen bei der Übersetzung aus dem Deutschen ins Türkische im Allgemeinen dieselbe Struktur aufweisen und dass die Technik „freie Neuformulierung“ nur zu 32,39 %</p><p>bevorzugt wird.
