Özet

The storage and utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) has a rapidly increasing interest against the climate crisis. Anaerobic biotechnology studies can convert CO2 into biomethane, a renewable energy source, in the presence of hydrogen (H2). The conversion of CO2 to biomethane as a renewable energy by biotechnological way is a sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient approach for the waste-energy cycle. In this study; the conversion of carbon dioxide to biomethane was studied with a plug-flow anaerobic bioreactor in the mesophilic conditions. The effect of different feeding rates at a ratio of 4:1 H2:CO2 were investigated. It was observed that the methane content of the head gas of the bioreactor increased as the feeding rate decreased. The percentage of biomethane produced in the plug-flow reactor was determined as 89%. The results has been interpreted due to the low microorganism-gas contact in the reactor at high feed rates. As conclusion; anaerobic Co2 utilization is the biotechnological way which convert CO2 and H2 to biomethane in anaerobic bioreactors and results show that anaerobic CO2 use should be explored at pilot scales as a potential solution to the climate crisis.
