<p>Abstract</p><p>Evaluation of Google Translate as a Translation Support in the Frame of Different Text</p><p>Types</p><p>In the communication age we are in, the importance of translation programs and machine translation systems is increasing day by day. Google Translate, one of the most preferred translation</p><p>programs, is examined in this research. The aim of the study is to examine the target texts created with Google Translate in terms of different text types from a linguistic perspective and evaluate</p><p>the translations through error analysis. The data analysis techniques used in the research are</p><p>based on the principles laid out by Rinsche (1993) and developed by Schäfer (2002) and Ramlow</p><p>(2009). In the study, three different texts in German are determined according to their difficulty</p><p>levels and these texts are translated into Turkish via Google Translate. As a result of the analysis,</p><p>the source texts and the translated texts are compared and it is determined whether the difficulty</p><p>level of the source text affects the quality of the target text in the translation process. The findings</p><p>obtained from each text are evaluated in the light of the questions at the starting point of the</p><p>research.</p><p>Keywords: translation, machine translation, Google Translate, online translation service.</p><p>Özet</p><p>İçinde bulunduğumuz iletişim çağında çeviri programlarının ve makine çevirisi sistemlerinin önemi</p><p>her geçen gün artmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, en çok tercih edilen çeviri programlarından Google</p><p>Çeviri mercek altına alınmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, farklı metin türleri bağlamında Google Çeviri ile</p><p>oluşturulan erek metinleri dilbilimsel açıdan ele almak ve hata analizi yaparak çevirileri değerlendirmektir. Araştırmada kullanılan veri analiz teknikleri Rinsche (1993) tarafından ortaya konan ve</p><p>Schäfer (2002) ile Ramlow (2009) tarafından geliştirilen esaslara dayanmaktadır. Çalışmada,</p><p>zorluk derecelerine göre Almanca üç farklı metin belirlenmiş ve bu metinler Google Çeviri aracılı-</p><p>ğıyla Türkçeye çevrilmiştir. İnceleme sonucunda, kaynak metinler ve erek metinler karşılaştırılmış, çeviri sürecinde kaynak metnin zorluk derecesinin erek metnin kalitesine etki edip etmediği</p><p>tespit edilmiş ve her metinden elde edilen bulgular araştırmanın çıkış noktasındaki sorular ışığında değerlendirilmiştir.</p><p>Anahtar Sözcükler: çeviri, makine çevirisi, Google Çeviri, çevrimiçi çeviri hizmeti.</p>
