Özet
Introduction: Effective discharge education given to parents of pediatric patients is crucial because it ensures the continuity of care, reduces complications, and supports their self-efficacy. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Ped-QDTS and to examine discharge readiness among hospitalized children and their families after receiving quality educational support. Material and methods: The parents of 200 children hospitalized in the pediatric ward of a hospital and scheduled for discharge were included in the study. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and split-half analyses were performed the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated. Results: Of the children in the study, 68% were boys, 27% were between the ages of 2 and 5 years. Of the participating parents, 89% were mothers. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value (0.860) and the result of Bartlett’s test of sphericity (X=2363.074, p<0.001) indicated that the sample was suitable for factor analysis. After the exploratory factor analysis, two items were removed. The Turkish version of the Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale–Parent Form had 17 items and 2 dimensions. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the fit indices were at an acceptable level. The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.867. Conclusions: The Turkish version of the scale is a valid and reliable parent-reported tool for assessing the quality of discharge education provided to parents of children hospitalized in pediatric wards.
