Özet
The most common cause of obesity in elderly people is the decrease in their basal metabolic rates and physical activities. The number of elderly obese is increasing almost everywhere in the world. In exercise recipes, either a-150-minute moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity or a combination of both is recommended.Sporting activities such as cycling, walking, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and working in the garden are well known types of exercises.Total energy consumptions in the elderly people decrease up to 20% compared to young individuals.Obesity and increased abdominal fat are associated with increased morbidity -mortality and low quality of life.Physically active elderly people with low abdominal circumference are very unlikely to develop insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, the prevalence of dyslipidemia [increased triglycerides levels and decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) levels] and hypertension are higher in obese older adults. In this review article, the problem of obesity in the elderly individuals are covered in depth and the exercises that can be taken for this problem are explained in detail.
