Summary
<p>The COVID-19 pandemic, which started in the last months of 2019 in Wuhan, China's Hubei</p><p>Province, affected the whole world in a short time, causing an increased interest in infectious</p><p>diseases. Although the effectiveness of the pandemic seems to have decreased for now, it is</p><p>observed that this health problem has deeply affected every country and every society as of June</p><p>2022. Starting from this and evaluating it from a historical perspective, it is natural to conduct</p><p>studies on the existence of subjects referring to infectious diseases in congresses where represen-</p><p>164</p><p>tatives of the medical field come together. In our country's health history, after the notice of the</p><p>Republic, National Turkish Medical Congresses started to be held in 1925 in order to improve</p><p>the health conditions of the country, to create deep-rooted health policies and to find solutions</p><p>to problems. These congresses are held regularly every two years or sometimes every three or</p><p>four years; in Ankara until 1950; In 1952, for the first time in Istanbul; it was held in İzmir in</p><p>1954. This congress, which was held for the first time in Izmir, was held between 27 September</p><p>and 01 October 1954, with the participation of Minister of Health, it was chaired by Dr. Behçet</p><p>Uz. In the program that continued for 4 days in which 127 papers were presented and the closing</p><p>session was held on the 5th day; In the afternoon meeting in the free papers section on the 3rd</p><p>day (Time: 09:00), the first paper on infectious diseases was presented by Doç. Dr. Talia Balı</p><p>Aykan with the title "The ratio of allergic phenomena occurring in the course of tuberculosis</p><p>infection and two disease tables with allergic application" (Section A: Public Education Center</p><p>Hall; Section C: National Library Hall No. 2). During the congress, 13 notification on infectious</p><p>diseases were included, and the last notification on the subject was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tevfik</p><p>Berkman with the name "Cerebral-spinal akinococci". In this study, considering that an important</p><p>national medical congress is being held in İzmir for the first time; regardless of whether the</p><p>infectious diseases are of a general or local nature, only the contagious feature of the notification</p><p>is determined, and the evaluations regarding the definition and treatment of the disease at that</p><p>time are shared.
