Özet

The study presents a theoretical and experimental investigation into the enhancement of the physical–mechanical properties of paper through the incorporation of collagen hydrolysates derived from chrome-tanned leather waste. These hydrolysates, owing to their unique structural and chemical characteristics, act as biopolymeric adhesive agents that promote the formation of both hydrogen and covalent bonds within the fibrous matrix of paper. Experimental results demonstrate that the addition of 1.5–2.5% collagen hydrolysate to a pulp composition consisting of 80% cotton cellulose and 20% modified polyacrylonitrile (MPAN) fibers yields significant improvements in breaking length, tensile strength, and surface uniformity. Microscale analyses confirm the formation of dense adhesive networks through hydrogen and covalent interactions between collagen macromolecules, cellulose, and MPAN fibers. The proposed papermaking technology contributes to the development of environmentally sustainable, high-performance paper composites, offering a viable “green chemistry” alternative to conventional rosin-based adhesives. The findings establish a scientific and technological foundation for the industrial application of collagen hydrolysates in the production of printing and packaging papers where enhanced durability and uniform fiber bonding are essential.
