Summary

With the emergence of the term Industry 4.0, the medical use of technologies such as three-dimensional printers (3D printer), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) has accelerated. 3D printers enable the production of prototypes of virtual models developed in the computer environment in desired dimensions using various thermoplastic materials. The usages of 3D printer technology in neurooncological surgery are the creation of patient or pathology-specific anatomical models and the use of these models in education, surgical planning, development of special surgical instruments, repair of bone defects and navigation applications. VR enables the visualization of virtual objects in the virtual environment, and AR provides the visualization of virtual objects in the real environment. The usages of 3D printer technology in neurooncological surgery are preoperative simulation, navigation, patient information, education and anxiolytic and analgesic treatment. The aim of this article is to determine the contributions of 3D printer, VR and AR to neurooncological surgery.
