Summary

Expression, in the simplest terms, means communicating an emotion, thought, subject or problem. This can be done through speech or writing. Communicating any emotion, thought, subject and problem through writing is defined as 'written expression'. Written expression, like oral expression, can be done in various ways. An article can be written for many purposes. In this sense, writing can serve one or more of the following purposes: narration, description, explanation and discussion. According to the purpose of writing, it is possible to talk about the existence of many types of written expression. This study aims to reveal the place and importance of writing in Turkish language through written expression types. Within the scope of the study, proverbs and idioms related to the types of written expression in Turkish were analyzed by content analysis method. In the study, which was designed in accordance with the qualitative research method, the 'Dictionary of Proverbs and Idioms', which was prepared by the Turkish Language Association and made available for sharing on the corporate website, was scanned. Then, proverbs and idioms related to written expression types were identified and analyzed by content analysis method based on the categories created based on the literature. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that there is only one proverb related to the types of written expression in Turkish, while idioms are relatively dense. This situation was associated with the notion that idioms as a language element add depth, fluency and attractiveness to the narrative. Within the scope of the study, it was concluded that the research findings were in parallel with the literature.

Keywords: Writing, Written Expression, Types of Written Expression, Content Analysis, Language, Proverb, Idiom.
