Özet

Endurance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in operation is a critical aspect of usability and serviceability; therefore, the energy efficiency must carefully be considered in the UAV system design. In spite of their high potential, electric-powered rotating-wing multi-copters, which are drones, have even scarcer energy resources. Thus, extraordinary diligence is required to make them useful in demanding commercial, industrial, civil, and military missions. Working on energy-saving strategies is crucial to discover how drones consume their energy sources. This paper provides a mathematical model regarding the energy consumption of drones. The composition of the energy-consuming parts and operations are presented as well as an estimation of their shares in the grand total. An exemplary calculation is made using real-world data for validation. Ultimately, some approaches regarding energy saving are pointed out, which may be useful, particularly for swarms.
