Synthesis of a Furanosidic Derivative of 3-Amino-3-Deoxy-D-Gulose

Özet
<p>D-Gulose is one of the rarest monosaccharides in nature. In this study, a new furanosidic amino derivative of D-gulose was synthesized. First, starting from a relatively cheap starting material, D-galactose (1), the furanosidic trichloroethylidene acetal (<strong>2</strong>) was synthesized. Then, 5-OH and 6-OH groups of the sugar were protected as isopropylidene acetal (<strong>3</strong>), and then “the amino sugar” <strong>6</strong> was obtained by epimerization and reduction reactions (<strong>4</strong> and <strong>5</strong>) performed on 3-OH. The obtained sugar will be used in the development of new-generation aminoglycoside antibiotics.</p>
